Tip:
Keep Your Marketing Efforts Within the Law
It
seems that about this time last year I was
writing
an article about spam and how we
as
legitimate marketers shouldn't do it. Now
the
federal government has stepped in and
it
is very important that you all know how to
keep
your marketing efforts within the law.
I
wish I could say there was some magic
formula
that would protect you from being
accused
of spam but I can't. Nor can I give
you
the 10 easy steps to ensure that will keep
you
safe.
What
I can give you is a link so that you
can
read the law:
http://www.spamlaws.com/federal/108s877.html
and
here are a couple of links that will help you
understand
the law

This
article does not constitute legal advice. For
your
company's specific situation you need to
consult
your attorney. But here are some general
guidelines
for conforming to the CAN-SPAM
Act
of 2003.
1.
Add your mailing address (physical or postal
mailing
address) to any email you send to your list,
especially
any messages that contain offers to sell
something.
2.
Make it -very- easy for your list members to
get
themselves off your list. You should have a
highlighted
message at the *top* and *bottom*
of
every message that states how the person can
get
off the list.
3.
Your Return Address that is included as the
reply
address in your emails must be valid and
work
and can not reject e-mail sent to it for
removes.
4.
It is now a federal crime to harvest e-mail
address's
and to use them for any mailings. If you
are
buying leads make sure you know where the
e-mail
address are coming from. If you e-mail a
lead
and it is proved it was harvested, you will
and
can be held responsible.
5.
Do not be deceptive in your subject line,
address
or the body of your message.
6.
Do not market illegal products.
